Spiced Banana Orange Date Smoothie
Jan 22nd
My love for dates is fairly new. A friend of mine introduced me to dates with candied orange slices that she brings back from Saudi Arabia. She was going to Saudi Arabia over the holidays, so I asked her to bring me back a whole box of just the orange ones (previously, she has been bringing me a mixed box).
For the last few mornings, we’ve been enjoying them in our oatmeal.
I’ve been wanting to pair it with bananas in a smoothie creation. I had the chance to do it today. We had a late breakfast and I wasn’t really hungry for lunch. But, I was getting ready to do a massage and I needed my strength, because there is nothing worse than being hungry during a massage. Client probably doesn’t really like it that much either with my stomach growling.
Spiced Banana Orange Date Smoothie
Serves 2
Ingredients:
1 cup non-dairy milk (I used Hemp milk)
1 frozen banana
2 oranges (juiced + zest of one orange for garnish)
3 Medjool dates, pitted, chopped (I used dates stuffed with candied orange)
1 teaspoon cinnamon (plus more for garnish)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper*
2 teaspoons flax seeds (for garnish)
*Optional for a spicy kick.
Directions:
Add milk and dates to your high speed blender and blend until the dates are incorporated into the milk. Add the rest of the ingredients and blend until smooth and creamy. Pour contents into glass. Garnish with 1 teaspoons of flaxseed, orange zest and a pinch of cinnamon. Sip with your straw and enjoy.
